On Thursday, June 30, 2022, the Port of Seattle held their Sustainable Century award ceremony at the Port of Seattle SEA Conference Center. Helena Park, CEO Fishermen’s Finest, addressed the crowd after receiving the Sustainable Century Award for Environmental Innovation.

The Eastside Mayors of Bellevue, Duvall, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kirkland, Mercer Island, North Bend, Redmond, and Renton joined together today along with Claudia Balducci / King County Council, and Sam Cho / Port of Seattle Commissioner to address Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the post-Covid world.

The Seattle Fishermen's Memorial hosts a Fishermen's Safety Fair to teach fishermen practical skills to save their boats and their lives. Together with our trainers and sponsors, we hope to promote and educate fishermen on the importance of safety.

Each year, on the first Sunday in May, the Seattle fishing community gathers to remember those that have gone before us. During our dedication, we acknowledge those that have had tiles installed (industry-related loss) or have been added to the Memorial Wall (lost at sea).

Zach Mierndorf stopped by the Kirkland headquarters, Tuesday April 26th to pick up his Omega Seamaster ‘James Bond’ watch - a gift from Ms. Park for 10 years of service to Fishermen’s Finest.

The Greater Kirkland Chamber of Commerce held its annual Gala on Saturday night April 23, 2022, at the Bellevue Westin Hotel. It was the first time in more than two years that the event was able to be held in person.

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, our Kirkland next-door neighbor, GOOGLE held a special event to announce their investment plans in Washington state for the year 2022.

The industry has been concerned about the disparity between locations that are surveyed and those that are fished in for a while, according to Alaska Seafood Coop Project Director John Gauvin, who is helping Hall connect with industry participants.

After all we’ve been through in 2020 and 2021, maintaining operations throughout a worldwide pandemic, it was nice to take a minute and have a little fun celebrating Halloween.

As we get close to the North Pacific Fishery Management Council’s final action cutting the Amendment 80 sector’s halibut - yet again - we should pause and reflect on what this will accomplish.

Oceana specifically, and incorrectly, asserts that Arrowtooth Flounder in the Gulf Alaska has unsustainable habitat impacts. In fact, the stock assessment authors for Arrowtooth flounder – scientists who know this species and its habitat inside and out – concluded that the effects of trawling on the mud and sand seafloor where Arrowtooth fishing occurs are essentially so small they are “unmeasurable.”
